The West Bay Public Beach is one of the best family beaches in West Bay. This is Seven Mile Beach's most westerly beach and a launching point for Grand Cayman scuba diving tours and Cayman Islands fishing tours. When we lived in West Bay, we walked here several times a week, and we were never disappointed.
Shady Beach
This beach has a boisterous family atmosphere about it. On most weekends, you'll find lots of kids running and playing on the beach and usually some sort of party going on as well. On Easter weekend, we arrived to find the whole beach filled with tents. Caymanians have a tradition of camping on Easter weekend. It was an amazing sight.
When my in-laws came to visit, we arrived on the beach and found a wedding in progress. It was just beautiful. The bride and groom stood on the beach barefoot, and their friends and family members gathered around them. I've actually seen several weddings on this beach.
When we lived in West Bay, my daughter used to love this beach because there was one section that was naturally shallow. It's very well sheltered by the black coral that covers one end of the beach. She liked to run into the water, splash around a bit, and pick out little bits of coral.
Beach Pavilions
One of the really nice things about this beach is that it has bathrooms and an outdoor shower to rinse off. It also has pavilions to host parties or weddings. In addition, it is right off the main road, and so, it's easy to get to. There are also two restaurants within walking distance, Tim Buc Tuu and Alfresco Restaurant, as well as one weekend barbecue, Chef Johns.
This beach has a large pier that is used as the launching point for scuba diving excursions as well as fishing trips. On most weekdays, you'll find hoards of tourist on this beach. They are either fresh from a cruise ship and there to take in the sights, or they are visiting for a few days and getting ready to go scuba diving or fishing.
