An excursion to Stingray City is a must for a fun Caribbean family vacation. This is our most favorite of all the grand cayman activities. This attraction is basically a boat ride to a sand bar out in the middle of the ocean to feed stingrays and to snorkel.
This activity offers fun for the entire family. It involves a wonderful boat ride through one of Cayman's many canals, and continues out to the stingray sandbar. Once there, you can feed the stingrays, swim around, or just relax on the boat. After the sandbar, the boat takes you to a nearby reef where you can snorkel and watch a fantastic array of fish and other ocean life. Take a look at some of our stingray pictures.

The thing I really like about this attraction is that it is truly family friendly. We took the Captain Crosby Watersports tour (phone number 345-916-1725). When we went, our daughter was a few months away from 2 years old. We just put her in her little water float and she paddled her way around while we took turns petting the stingrays. It was just great. There were several other boats with other tourists and yet we never felt crowded or pressured to hurry up.
After the sand bar, the boat took us to a reef for some snorkeling. This trip was actually the first time I'd seen a Cayman Islands' reef. It had such a wide array of colors, a large diversity of fish, and even a few stingrays swimming about. My husband also enjoyed snorkeling.

Fun Caribbean Family Vacation
Captain Crosby is 79 years old and quite a character. He fed the stingrays so we would be able to pet them, and at the reef, he fished for his dinner while the rest of us were snorkeling. In addition, he's a guitarist, and he serenaded us with a few tunes on the way back to shore. The songs tended to be folksy and country; I remember one of them had very funny lyrics. Everyone on the boat was clapping and swaying to the music. It was a wonderful way to end such a great day. This attraction is really the best of the Cayman Island activities.
