A trip to Rum Point beach will help create your best Caribbean family vacation. This beach is by far my most favorite Grand Cayman beach. It is extremely family friendly with a white sand beach and warm shallow water. You'll find beach chairs to relax by the water and a shower to rinse off the salt water. On top of all of this, they have decent food from The Wreck Bar.
Rum Point Beach
Best Caribbean Family Vacation
The main reason I love this beach is that it is designed for families. We used to get there by driving up from West Bay. When we arrived, the first thing we would try to do is look for beach chairs in a good location. If it was not crowded, we were never disappointed. Our favorite spot was a shady corner near the water. In this way, my husband and I could take turns playing with the baby in the water or relaxing on a chair.
After we unpacked our stuff we would head for the water. The water was shallow enough that my daughter could walk a little way in and get her feet wet without getting scared. When it looked as if she was interested in going a little further, we would just put her in her little water float and off we'd go.
The water is shallow enough to walk for what looks like a quarter of a mile away from the shore. We've even done a little snorkeling, but there aren't too many fish that close to shore. We see all sorts of people park their boats a short distance away and just walk into shore. They usually come to get food and then take off again.
Shallow Azure Water at the Beach
Speaking of food, another reason I love Rum Point is the Wreck Bar. The burgers are great, but they also offer other Caribbean dishes. The service is always prompt and courteous. I have to admit; I've never had anything other than the burger.
Everything here is designed for comfort and convenience. For example, we once drove all the way out there and realized we had forgotten to bring my daughter's swim suit. Not a problem, they have a little shop with all sorts of things you might need. Needless to say, since they are so convenient, they can be a little pricey.
We've been to this beach many times since arriving on the Island and we always have a good time. My daughter usually makes new friends, my husband catches an afternoon nap, and I get to read a few lines of a novel before I get to chase my daughter around the beach again.
