I know, I know… You’'ve heard it all before. “How to stay in (fill in the blank) for free” is probably one of the oldest lines around. But this time, it’s really true. Couch Surfing allows people from all over the world to travel and share experiences with each other.
How to Stay in the Cayman Islands for Free
I checked out Couch Surfing a few days ago, and discovered there are 38 available sofa’s here in Cayman just waiting for you. The couches are on all 3 islands and are made available by local Caymanians as well as expats living permanently here on Cayman. The benefit to you is you can stay with someone who could give you tips for the best excursions or even cheap places to eat. The owners of these couches get a wonderful experience talking to someone they may otherwise have never met.
As you may imagine, this sort of travel is really ideal for a single person. Possibly a couple could work with an interested host. But, it would be difficult for a family to travel in the same way.
Your host is not allowed to charge you money or even require that you do any chores in exchange for your stay. However, many travelers offer to cook a meal or clean up as a way of thank you for the hospitality.
So, what do the Cayman Islands have to offer? These islands offer scuba diving in Grand Cayman and Little Cayman. Other fun Grand Cayman activities include horseback riding and swimming with dolphins.
What are some things to keep in mind when traveling to Cayman? Well, the public transportation is limited outside of George Town (Cayman Islands’ capital). So, you will probably need to rent a car. In addition, you will still need to get to Cayman. Tourist season is from the beginning of December through the middle of April. Obviously, travel to Cayman is more expensive during those months. Probably, the cheapest time to travel to Cayman is during the months of July and August. These are the hottest months of the year, but if you primarily plan to scuba dive or hang out at the beach, this wont be a problem for you. If you plan to do a lot of hiking or visit the Botanical Gardens, I would recommend the months of April and May. The weather is starting to heat up, but it’s not unbearable yet.
Overall, if you are single and adventurous, the Cayman Islands could be the perfect place to visit. You can stay with wonderful people, swim in clear Caribbean waters, and eat great local food. The Cayman Islands feature the best scuba diving in the world and the cleanest whitest beaches in the Caribbean.
