If you are up for a culinary adventure and don’t want to pay resort prices for food, then you must check out the local restaurants. Local Grand Cayman restaurants or kitchens have the best local cuisine. The food is good, the service is friendly, and the price is low. Typically you could spend between $4 CI ($6 US) and $10 CI ($12 US) for a meal.

These local restaurants are one of the best ways to get a real Caymanian experience with Caribbean food like curried goat or ackee and saltfish. Cayman food, like all Caribbean dishes, has influences from Africa, Asia, and the Pacific Islands.

Caribbean food recipes are a wonderful mixture of West African food, Indian spices, Pacific Island fruit, and native Caribbean vegetables. Some of these foods include callaloo from West Africa, curry from India, and breadfruit from the Pacific Islands.

Much of Caymanian cuisine includes fish. There is a long tradition of fishing in the Caymanian culture, and as a result many of the truly authentic Cayman dishes include different types of fish. These are fish like mahi mahi, wahoo, or red snapper. A typical meal may include pan fried fish and vegetables, rice and beans, as well as fritters (fried dough made from flour and water).
