Heritage Kitchen

Heritage Kitchen is one of the best known local Grand Cayman restaurants for Cayman food. This restaurant serves Cayman cuisine such as fried mahi-mahi and snapper as well as fresh lobster. A restaurant review of this kitchen has to include its wonderful view of the ocean and its proximity to historic Boggy Sands Road.

Restaurant Review
If you are in the mood for Caymanian cuisine by the sea, this is the place for you. This Kitchen serves Cayman food that includes fried fish, fish tea, and fresh lobster on Sundays. The Cayman cuisine at this restaurant includes rice and beans as well as fritters.

The dish I love the most is the mahi-mahi. This comes with a large portion of mahi-mahi, pickled vegetables and three large fritters. I also include a cup of fish tea when I'm really hungry.

When we lived in West Bay, one of our favorite family evenings involved going to Heritage in the early evening. We would order our food and eat on the wall overlooking the ocean. Nothing says Caribbean Island more than enjoying fresh fish in the moonlight with ocean waves breaking on the beach.

Location
11 Boggy Sand Rd, West Bay, Grand Cayman
This Grand Cayman restaurant is behind the Heritage shopping center at the four-way stop sign.

Hours
Open every evening on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Also open on Sunday for lunch.

Heritage's Gift Shop

Gift Shop
Heritage's gift shop is unique in that is also has a gift shop. This shop contains a number of tourist trinkets such as conch shells and some Cayman Island clothing. My daughter and I looked around the shop and discovered a clean well organized store. The only tricky thing is determining the hours of operation. It seems to be open generally on Tuesdays and Wednesdays around 10 in the morning.

Boggy Sands Road
Heritage is just at the entrance to Boggy Sands Road. This road used to be part of the main road from West Bay to George Town, but now it is a quiet shady road right along the beach. When we lived in West Bay, my daughter and I walked on this road several times a week because it was one of the few roads with enough shade for a decent walk, and the homes were wonderful to see.

There is such wonderful mix of homes; some are built in a traditional Caymanian style while other are in a new supper modern design. We've been on this street so often that many of the residents know us by sight and stop to say hello or ask how we are doing. If you have the time, it's well worth it to take a slow walk down Boggy Sands Road.
