The Grand Cayman Turtle Farm (aka Boatswains Beach ) is probably the most fun and educational of the tourist attractions. The Cayman turtle farm is the most interesting of the attractions in Grand Cayman because it teaches children about the ecology of large sea turtles while also providing fun activities such as snorkeling and swimming.
This attraction is located near Boatswain Bay and consequently its official name is Boatswain's Beach. This farm offers lots of open tanks where sea turtles of all ages are raised. The best times to arrive are when the turtles are being fed. There's even a section where you can hold a turtle, and of course lots of sections that house baby turtles. Take a look at our sea turtle pictures from our family trips.
Baby Sea Turtles
We've been to the turtle farm a few times now, and every time is a new adventure. The first time we went they were feeding the turtles. My daughter really enjoyed watching the turtles jostling each other for the tastiest bits of food. We also got to see several varieties of birds, fish, and sharks.
The second time we went, they were hand-feeding the sharks. This to me was just amazing. The sharks are apparently not harmful to humans as long as you aren't in the way of their food. The sharks were kept in a predator tank which also housed sea turtles, eels, and other predator fish.
Scarlet Ibis
One part of the farm allows you to snorkel with fish. My husband really enjoyed seeing such a wide variety of fish. My daughter and I swam in a more standard looking pool with a large waterfall that hosted iguanas sunning themselves on the top rocks.
Boatswain's Beach amenities are also very nice. The bathrooms are super clean and host a changing area as well. The restaurant has good food and refreshing drinks. This farm is definitely one of the best family friendly attractions on the Cayman Islands.
