Local Grand Cayman Restaurants

Local Grand Cayman restaurants with the best Cayman food are usually in little shacks or hole-in-the-wall places. These Caribbean restaurants usually have Cayman food, Jamaican food, and other types of Caribbean food.

The great thing about these restaurants is that the menu is usually limited to about 10 items. This means that they can perfect a few dishes instead of trying to do everything. Their menus usually have some variation of fish, beef, chicken, as well as rice and beans. Every restaurant does these dishes in their own way which means that the same dish won't taste the same in every restaurant. In addition, they frequently have a freshly squeezed carrot and ginger drink available, however, I think this is primarily a Jamaican drink.

The two best Caribbean style restaurants I've discovered on the island are The Bay Restaurant (aka The Cuban) in West Bay and Elaine's Restaurant in George Town. When we used to live in West Bay, we went to The Bay Restaurant quite a bit. This restaurant has the absolute best fried chicken on the entire island. This is a spicy Caribbean style chicken laying on a bed of rice and beans. This dish is just magnificent. Also, the portions at this restaurant are always filling.

At Elaine's Restaurant, I had the best rice and beans dish I have ever had on the island. These rice and beans were not just moist, they were flavored with a little beef broth. It was absolutely wonderful.
