Cayman Islands' Constitution Day

by Katherine

July 5th is Constitution Day, and in fact it launches Constitution Week. This holiday allows residents to review their constitution. The constitution will be made available at various public libraries throughout the islands. In addition, at many locations, there will be someone available to answer questions.

Now, I don't know how many Caymanians are actually going to do this. I notice that there is big boat race scheduled for the same day in East End. But, I think it's a good idea especially here where they passed a new constitution only a year ago.

Constitution Day in the US is on September 17. However, since it is not a day off, this day passes largely unnoticed unless you have school aged children or work for the government. I wonder if a day off would help improve interest government in the US.

If you would like more information on this, go to the Constitution Week news article.
