Ships Anchored near George Town
What are some good shore excursions? We want to schedule our excursions ahead of time.
It kind of depends on what you are into. If you are interested in shopping, you're going to start in George Town. The shopping there consists of mostly of high end jewelry and watches. You can also find some tourist souvenirs. Also, in George Town, you can investigate the Atlantis Submarine, National Museum and National Gallery.
One the other hand, if you like the beach, Seven Mile Beach (SMB) is world renowned. SMB has several little beaches, but you will probably be taken to the Public Beach which has several pergolas for you and your stuff, a nearby restaurant/bar called Calico Jacks, a children's play ground, and relatively clean bathrooms.
If you would like to snorkel, I recommend taking an excursion to Stingray City. On this excursion, you can swim with stingrays. You can even touch and feed them. However, most excursions to Stingray City also include a little time to go to the nearby reef just to snorkel. This by far is my favorite part of the trip.
What are the best excursions for a family with young children?
I recommend the Turtle Farm. This is kind of a cross between and zoo and a water park. Depending on the time you arrive you can swim with turtles, watch the sharks being fed, or hold a baby turtle. My daughter really enjoyed the swimming.
Other excursions I would recommend are Rum Point because of the warm shallow water. This was is just great for young kids who can get out and splash about while remaining relatively safe.
If you want to stay in George Town, I would recommend the Atlantis Submarine. This is a great way to see the reef without having to snorkel or dive.
We are taking a cruise and we are opting out of the excursions. Any suggestions?
You could start with George Town and look into shopping or investigate a little of Cayman's history at the National Museum. There are a number of activities to do in George Town that include the Atlantis Submarine and the Pirate ship which you can book on your own. If you're interested in the beach, track down a bus (they are easy to find) and pay $2 CI to go to the Seven Mile Public Beach.
