The Bay Restaurant has the best Caribbean cuisine in the West Bay. This cuisine is not so much Caymanian as Jamaican. This Cayman restaurant offers curried goat, jerk chicken and pork, as well as oxtail and fried chicken. A restaurant review must include the relaxed family atmosphere and friendly staff.
The Bay Restaurant
Restaurant Review
The Bay features primarily Jamaican cuisine. They do not serve fish dishes, but instead have fried chicken, curried goat, jerk meat, and oxtail. Every meal is served in large portions in styrofoam containers.
The interesting thing about this restaurant is they do not have a sign, and when I asked for the name of the restaurant, they said The Cuban. It turns out that the original restaurant was run by a Cuban and obviously served primarily Cuban food. It has been The Bay Restaurant for some time now, but the locals still refer to it as The Cuban.
My all time favorite dish at this restaurant is the fried chicken. This is not Kentucky Fried Chicken. Instead, it's Caribbean fried chicken; it's seasoned to perfection and served on a bed of rice and beans. My husband has also had wonderful things to say about the Oxtail.
Restaurant seating area
When we lived in West Bay, we used to eat from this Cayman restaurant a few times a month. The food is that good. Many times we used to simply take the food home with us, but sometimes we would eat outdoors right in front of the restaurant. Usually, we were greeted by a cute little boy who was just a little older than my daughter. Also, sometimes we would get a little treat like a small piece of a warm sweat bread. I never did figure out what it was called, but it was wonderful.
I also tried the carrot juice for the first time at this restaurant. The carrot juice is flavored with ginger which is a delicious combination with the carrot. The ginger has a way of cutting the sweetness of the carrot juice. This drink can be had by itself or with any of the meals.
